Experimental Study of Ultrasound-Assisted Reaming of Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Plastics/Titanium Alloy Stacks

Carbon fiber-reinforced plastic/titanium alloy (CFRP/Ti) stacks are widely used in the aerospace field based on their high strength to weight ratio and heat resistance. High-quality bolt hole assembly is critical for safety of industry. Reaming a crucial process precision machining extensively improve quality holes. Due different properties material, with conventional reaming (CR) presents some challenges, such as tolerance variations across group difficulty controlling thrust. In this paper, ultrasonic vibration applied process. A geometrical model (UVR) was established analyze its kinematic law. UVR experiments CFRP/Ti were carried out study influence amplitudes thrust tool speed thrust, dimensional accuracy, surface roughness under optimal amplitude. The average forces decreased by over 57% (Ti) 40% (CFRP), respectively, compared CR. CFRP reduced 20% 28% titanium alloys. topography holes significantly improved UVR. This work guides manufacture high-quality stacks.
